Holiday Hardwood Invitational Preview

No fewer than six California basketball recruiting targets will be in action next week for the Holiday Hardwood Invitational at Westlake (Calif.) High School, including Solomon Young.

Last year, the Holiday Hardwood Classic featured an epic showdown between Corona (Calif.) Centennial – featuring Sedrick Barefield -- and Santa Monica (Calif.) – featuring Jonah Mathews and now-California freshman Jordan Mathews -- and this year, the field is going to be a can't-miss for Bears hoops fans.

The tournament moves from Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian to Westlake (Calif.) High School, and features some doozies in the first round.

To kick off the Dec. 26-30 tournament, four-star 2015 guard Aaron Holiday of North Hollywood (Calif.) Campbell Hall takes on Rialto (Calif.) Eisenhower at noon.

The 4:30 p.m. game features three Cal targets. For Sacramento, 2016 three-star forward Solomon Young and three-star 2016 point Christian Terrell join up with 2016 guard Tre Finch against Clovis (Calif.) North.

Young is averaging 19.0 points, 9.4 boards, 1.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.8 blocks per game for the 4-1 Dragons, while Terrell is averaging 9.4 points, 5.8 boards, 4.2 assists and 1.6 steals. Finch is averaging 7.2 points, 3.2 boards and 2.6 assists.

Next up, at 6 p.m., Santa Monica – along with the younger Mathews (a 2016 guard who a source says love Cal quite a bit already) and 2015 guard New Williams take on Elk Grove (Calif.) Pleasant Grove and 2015 four-star forward Marquese Chriss.

Mathews scored 41 points in an 85-73 win earlier this month over Harvard-Westlake, including 20 points in the first half. Williams went 3-for-3 from three-point range in that contest, and despite being slowed by a minor leg injury suffered against Palisades, finished with 17 points, 11 boards and a steal.

Also in action will be El Cerrito (Calif.) against Reseda (Calif.) Cleveland at 9 p.m., Fresno (Calif.) Bullard and 2015 three-star guard Austin Armstead against Rancho Verde (Calif.) at 1:30 p.m., Fresno (Calif.) Central against Ontario (Calif.) Colony at 3 p.m., San Gabriel (Calif.) San Gabriel Academy against Valencia (Calif.) West Ranch at 10:30 a.m. and Westlake (Calif.) against Granada Hills (Calif.) at 7:30 p.m. All games will be at Westlake High School. Top Stories
