The California men's basketball team announced just after noon on Monday that head coach Mike Montgomery would step down from his coaching duties and retire from the game. The 67-year old head coach had a bladder cancer scare in 2012, but has not experienced any further health problems.
Montgomery has spent more than 40 years in the sport, and completed his career third in Golden Bear history with 130 victories in six seasons. Montgomery also ranks No. 3 in conference history with 282 league wins and is No. 25th on the NCAA's Division I men's basketball wins list with 677 career victories.
