It was, to say the least, difficult for Malik Psalms to not pull the trigger this weekend while visiting California on Saturday, especially after talking in-depth with veteran corner Stefan McClure and defensive backs coach Greg Burns.
When he got home on Sunday, Psalms told BearTerritory that a decision could be expected within a week. He was 90% sure, he said, but he just needed that last 10% to make the call.
"Actually, it was five or six minutes ago, my mom came into my room, and she already knew that I was going to commit, but she just wanted to know when," Psalms told BearTerritory. "She just said, ‘There's no better time than to just do it now.' So, I didn't wait until Thursday."
Psalms is the second commitment in two days for the Golden Bears, who hauled in three-star wide receiver Austin Aaron on Sunday after his weekend visit, as well.
"I just couldn't pass up the education," Psalms said. "It's the difference between getting the San Diego State degree, the San Jose State degree and getting a degree from Cal-Berkeley. That degree is something that you just cannot pass up."
Last season, Psalms – who boasts a 3.5 GPA – Psalms caught three passes for 27 yards (he'll play more wide receiver this coming season, he said, and spoke with Rob Likens on his visit on Saturday), racking up 54 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss at cornerback and notching one interception.
