McKinley Offered Again

Takkarist McKinley doesn't look like he once did, when he signed with California last February.

The Richmond (Calif.) Kennedy product is now at Contra Costa College, and recently, he spoke with Bears head coach Sonny Dykes, who told him that he was still a part of the Cal family. On Friday, McKinley officially pulled down an offer from the Bears.

"He said I could come down any time I want," McKinley said. "They still want me. They see big things. I'm still part of the Cal family."

McKinley talked with Dykes for 30-40 minutes recently, he said, and he's set to graduate in May of 2015 from Contra Costa, with the Bears still firmly in the mix.

The one-time three-star defensive end is not only bigger on the recruiting end -- where he has seven offers, including Texas, UCLA and Arizona State -- but he's also just plain bigger.

He now checks in at a solid 6-foot-2, 250 pounds, without spring track obligations to keep his weight down, and he hasn't lost much -- if any -- speed, as he' recently clocked a 4.4 40.

"Cal's always in the picture," McKinley said. "It's home. It's Berkeley. It's my back yard." Top Stories
