California head basketball coach Cuonzo Martin announced on Thursday the appointment of Nicodemus Christopher (Twitter: @nicodemus_c) as the program's head Strength & Conditioning Coach.
A San Diego native, Christopher joins the Bears after serving the same role on Martin's staff for the past two seasons at Tennessee, and will oversee all aspects of the S&C program related to men's basketball, including, according to a release, "individually-designed high performance training, treatment and nutritional needs."
"I am thrilled to welcome Nicodemus to the Cal family," Martin said in a release. "His combination of knowledge, experience, leadership qualities and great relationships with the student-athletes has produced immeasurable results. Nicodemus is a very important piece in the continued development of our players on and off the court."
Before joining Martin at Tennessee, Christopher served at Purdue as a speed and conditioning coordinator for the men's basketball program and oversaw the sports performance program for the softball and track and field programs during the 2011-12 academic year.
Christopher has also served as a sports performance coach with the Michael Johnson Performance Center in Dallas, Tex., and Accelerate Performance Enhancement Center in Tyler, Tex. He has coached several professional athletes, including members of both the NHL's Dallas Stars and MLS' FC Dallas franchises.
Christopher also served an internship as a strength and conditioning coach at Stanford in 2010.
Christopher is a USA Weightlifting (USAW) certified sport performance coach.
A 2007 graduate of Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science in health and human performance, Christopher continued his education at the University of Texas at Tyler where he earned a masters degree in 2010 in kinesiology with an emphasis on biomechanics and anatomical kinesiology. During his time as an undergraduate at Baylor, Christopher sat on the executive boards of both the African Student Association and the Association of Black Students.
