Double Pump VIDEO: Moore Talks Recruiting
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Whether it’s no-look passes or driving to the hoop, finishing with both hands, 2016 three-star Justin Moore is bound for a lot more offers than the five he currently has – from San Diego State, USC, Georgia State, San Diego and Utah State.
“I’m just getting my weight up, and keep on working on my all-around game,” Moore said after his work on Saturday at the Double Pump Best of Summer event. “I’m hearing from the whole Pac-12, the whole Mountain West, Vanderbilt, the Ivy League, a couple more.”
Several of those suitors were in attendance at Double Pump this past weekend, most prominently the Trojans, Aztecs and California, the latter two represented by assistants Justin Hutson and Yanni Hufnagel.
“[I have good relationships with] San Diego State -- Justin, coach Dutch (Brian Dutcher), Tony Bland at USC and coach [Darryl] LaBarrie at Georgia State,” Moore said. “I’m wide open. I’m just trying to get better at my game. I’m not all that concerned with college right now, but with just playing and getting better.”
Moore also prominently mentioned the Bears and Hufnagel, who started recruiting him while at Vanderbilt.
“Me and Yanni are cool. I talk to him all the time. He’s a great guy, a great coach and he’s just a great person,” Moore said. “When he left to Cal, he started recruiting me, and now, coach Adam Cohen is recruiting me at Vanderbilt.”
What’s most important to Moore at the next level – though, he says, he’s not in any rush “at all” to make a decision – is what school winds up being the best fit, along with his relationship with the coaching staff. He also wants a program “where I can make it to the next level.”
Moore is much more amicable now to Hufnagel than when the now-current Cal assistant was at Vandy.
“California’s better, definitely,” Moore laughed. “I know the coaching staff is trying to get great players to come there, but also great people. It’s a great program all around.”
Moore plans to visit the Bears – and rival Stanford – some time in August, and also has a trip tentatively set for Harvard later in the month.
