REDONDO BEACH, Calif. -- When BearTerritory spoke with Tyler Dorsey last week at the Battle at the Beach, the 2015 four-star was reticent to address any specific schools.
“I’m just trying to build relationships, get back with all the coaches. I’m open to everybody in the country right now,” Dorsey said. “I’m just taking my time. No specific coaches or colleges. I’m going to cut a list, later, though, maybe after this travel ball season. I’m going to sit down with my family and cut the list down.”
What exactly is he looking for in his list of final schools?
“I’m looking for player relationships with the coaches, player development and education. Those are the big three things,” Dorsey said.
The No. 6 shooting guard in the 2015 class and the No. 25 player overall wouldn’t say that any schools specifically stand out, at the moment.
“I can’t say. People are coming hard, though, because it’s winding down,” said Dorsey, who wants to cut his list of nine offers down to five.
“Everybody right now, just everybody. All the coaches that are coming, they’re coming hard,” Dorsey said.
One of the schools that’s coming hard is California, with assistant Yanni Hufnagel watching Dorsey’s late-night game last Thursday, which started at 9:20 p.m.
“I’ve been talking to the Cal coaches all the time,” Dorsey said. “That’s a good spot. I’m looking at them, heavily.”
After transferring from Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco -- where he finished with a 3.3 GPA – to his hometown Pasadena (Calif.) Maranatha, Dorsey isn’t too fond of moving around much, so he hasn’t had any recent unofficial visits, and won’t take any before official season comes around.
“Nothing planned right now. If it happens, it’ll be out of nowhere,” Dorsey said. “I think, after I cut it down to my five last schools, I’m going to take all my officials. I don’t think I’m going to take any unofficials before.”
