What's so 'Exciting' About Jackson's Latest?
Vance Jackson was one of three basketball players to haul in a California scholarship offer on Tuesday, following Matisse Thybulle and 2016er Chris Lewis.
Bears assistant Yanni Hufnagel had watched Jackson light up the nets two weeks ago at the Battle at the Beach in Redondo Beach, Calif., and liked him enough to extend a scholarship offer to the talented Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco Brave, who’s good friends with Cal wide receiver Bryce Treggs.
“It’s exciting,” said the four-star forward. “I’m open to all schools, and Cal, they’ve been really close with me, and they’ve been contacting me a lot. It’s pretty good.”
Jackson said that he speaks with the Bears fairly frequently after the staff told him that they were going to pay close attention to him at the Battle at the Beach.
“They love watching me play,” Jackson said. “I talk with coach Martin, I talked to him once every week, probably.”
The 2016 star isn’t sure about making an unofficial up to Berkeley any time soon (“I want to wait until my junior year, probably,” he said), but he has taken trips to local schools like USC and UCLA, though neither have offered. Washington, Connecticut, Arizona State and Arizona have all offered, along with the Bears.
