California has added its 10th commitment of the 2015 class in three-star linebacker Trevor Howard, who visited Berkeley on Sunday for the Bears’ seventh fall practice.
The 6-foot-3, 224-pounder pulled the trigger before practice, committing to defensive line coach Fred Tate and defensive coordinator Art Kaufman, before hitting the field and telling his primary recruiter, Pierre Ingram.
“It actually happened right before the practice, and I was talking with Art Kaufman, the defensive coach, and we were just talking, going over some stuff, and I committed there, on the spot,” Howard said.
Howard visited the staff down in Southern California last month, when the staff ran a camp at Fullerton College, where he expressed his pleasure with Tate comparing him to Anthony Barr and Brennan Scarlett.
The Bears will take Howard as a defensive end.
Howard is a physical prospect with a quick first step and a projectable body. He committed to Cal over offers from Nevada, Idaho and Holy Cross.
“Their program is on the rise, they have nowhere to go but up, the facilities are amazing and the players here are amazing, the coaches are amazing – everything about it is just great,” Howard said.
Stay tuned for more from Howard as we go Beyond the Commitment.
