On Tuesday, California officially signed Bothell (Wash.) quarterback Ross Bowers to a financial aid agreement, marking the first signee of the 2015 recruiting class. He will join the program as a mid-year enrollee in January.
“We are excited to have Ross join the Cal football program,” said head coach Sonny Dykes. “He’s exactly what we are looking for in a quarterback. He has shown great leadership and does all the things we want a quarterback to do. We’re excited about his future and what he will bring to our program. We’re also excited that he will join our team in January and be able to start learning the offense and get into the mix at the quarterback position.”
Bowers had a strong 2014 summer when he was an Elite 11 finalist and a participant at The Opening, as well as the MVP at the Oregon Nike Football Training Camp.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Bowers threw four touchdowns last Friday, and has led the Cougars to a 3-0 start, completing 49-of-81 passes for 688 yards and eight touchdowns with one interception.
