California scored the first commit after its big official weekend on Sunday, and he wasn’t even in the house.
Three-star cornerback Keith Washington out of Prattville, Ala., is ranked as the fourth-best cornerback in the state of Alabama, and the 61st best player overall in the South region. At 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, the speedy cornerback runs a 4.30 40-yard dash, and committed to the Bears following his official visit to Louisville.
Washington becomes the sixth defensive back to commit to Cal this cycle, adding to the height of the unit that will also include Antoine Albert (still has one more class to take at Diablo Valley College before he can transfer), fellow Alabaman DePriest Turner, Mesa CC safety and early-enrollee Derron Brown, Pasadena (Calif.) La Salle DB Evan Rambo and Malik Psalms. The last two were both on their official visits to Cal this weekend.
Each of the six are 6-foot-1 or taller, with all but Turner checking in at 6-foot-2 or taller.
Washington, like Turner, plays both quarterback and defensive back, and had a big in-home visit last week with defensive backs coach Greg Burns that helped secure the eventual commitment.
