Ivan Rabb Previews Cal Official Visit

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Ivan Rabb talks about his upcoming official visit to Cal as we preview the biggest official visit weekend since Jabari Bird made his trip to Berkeley three years ago.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Sunday may be Senior Day for the California basketball team, but while the proceedings on the court may be focused on David Kravish, Christian Behrens and Dwight Tarwater, the main event will be the official visits of three potentially program-changing recruits.

The last time this many big names were on campus was three years ago, when Jabari Bird, Marcus Lee and Aaron Gordon tripped to Berkeley.

Led by five-star Oakland (Calif.) Bishop O’Dowd big man Ivan Rabb -- who’s missed the past four games due to a foot injury and, on Friday, illness – his first missed games in his high school career – the Bears welcome Davon Dillard and Caleb Swanigan to campus for the weekend, and, given what BearTerritory has heard from sources, it’s no surprise that Rabb has been the ringleader.

The 6-foot-10 Oakland native is very close with Swanigan, given their experiences on the U17 Team USA this past summer, and the two remain in close contact.

“We’ve been talking for a long time,” said Rabb. “We were going to have one more person coming, that I can’t name, but that would have been a really big deal. We wanted him to come, but he didn’t.”

Rabb has been a regular visitor to Berkeley since Cuonzo Martin has taken over the program, just as Martin has been a regular at Rabb’s games this season, and while Rabb has seen plenty of what Berkeley and the school itself have to offer, he wants to see even more.

“I’m just excited to finally get there on an official, where they really treat me and show me everything that they haven’t shown me yet,” Rabb said.

What is there left to show?

“I’m not exactly sure, and that’s why I’m optimistic about it,” said Rabb, on his way to getting treatment for a balky foot after he sat out the Dragons’ decisive win over Alhambra on Friday night. “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I know I’m going with two other guys, and they’re really serious about going to the school, and so am I. We’re going to talk about it and try to make the best choice.”
