California has added its fourth cornerback to the 2016 class, and the first out of a junior college in Mesa (Ariz.) Community College sophomore Marloshawn Franklin, who committed while hosting cornerbacks coach John Lovett on an in-home visit. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder is a bigger corner, in the mold of the Bears' Darius White, who will graduate after this season. Franklin was offered by the Bears on Sunday during the big official visit weekend, which is set to have a sequel in just two days, before Cal beings prep for the Armed Forces Bowl, in earnest.
http://www.scout.com/college/california/story/1621393-beyond-commitment-... Franklin attended Phoenix (Ariz.) Mountain Pointe High School, but was born in Detroit, Mich. This season, he allowed just four catches, made 30 solo tackles, 11 assists, 12 pass breakups and one forced fumble. He'll enroll in January.
Mesa head coach Ryan Felker says that Franklin has the potential to be "very good at the next level."
"He is a kid that will always rise to any challenge you give him and has a great work ethic," Felker says. "He is a DB that is great in man coverage and very physical. We always appreciated the intensity that Shawn brought on a daily basis, he is very competitive. It has been awesome watching him grow and develop."
