Cal counts Melquise Stovall and quarterback signee Max Gilliam among its weekend official visitors

A former USC commit and a four-star TCU commit highlight another big weekend of official visitors, led by quarterback signee Max Gilliam.

California will have yet another mammoth visit weekend on tap for Friday, when longtime quarterback commit and early enrollee Max Gilliam leads a group of at least five official visitors into Berkeley.

The Bears got two commits out of the last recruiting weekend, from offensive lineman Dwayne Wallace and cornerback Marloshawn Franklin, and they've got a high-profile group coming in this time around.

The big fish in this group is former four-star USC athlete commit Melquise Stovall, who got an in-home visit from Dykes two weeks ago, just before news of his interview with Missouri got out. The visit, Stovall said, went very well, and it’s resulted in an official visit for the Bears.

TCU quarterback/athlete commit D'Eriq King out of Manvel is also slated to be on the list this weekend, and he’s got a slew of offers, including Baylor, Clemson, Louisville, Michigan State, Rutgers, TCU, Texas Tech and UCLA, as well as the Bears. King led Manvel to an 11-3 record on the year.

King completed 171 of 254 passes this season for 2,898 yards (67.3 completion percentage), with 43 touchdowns to just five interceptions. At 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, King profiles very similarly both physically and statistically to quarterback-turned-safety Luke Rubenzer, and he’s certainly got the legs for the comparison. King rushed 113 times for 640 yards this season for eight touchdowns, with three 100+ yard games.

King was originally offered by the Bears as an offensive athlete, and he's been committed to the Horned Frogs since January 17 of this year, but Cal has been around since the beginning, so anything can happen.

Also coming out from Manvel is the other half of Manvel’s rushing attack, in four-star Ole Miss running back commit D'Vaughn Pennamon. Pennamon rushed 134 times for 1,586 yards and 24 touchdowns, with five 100+ yard games, and he averaged 113.3 yards per contest on the ground. Pennamon also caught 25 balls for 195 yards and three touchdowns.

Golden West CC wide receiver Jordan Veasy, a 6-foot-3, 215-pounder originally out of Gadsen, Ala., will also be in attendance this weekend, after taking an official visit to Eastern Michigan this past week. This season, he posted 63 catches for 1,036 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Veasy will enroll early at the school of his choice in January, and have three years to play two.
