Spencer Freedman Talks Academic Heavyweights

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Spencer Freedman of Santa Ana (Calif. Mater Dei talks recruiting, his Cal connection, and academic powerhouses at the Elite 100.

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- With a 4.3 GPA, a plus handle, deadly shakes and a smooth carriage on the court as he dished out 12 assists, 2018 point guard Spencer Freedman can write his ticket wherever he wants, and he's got the Ivy League schools, Stanford and his father's alma mater, California, all taking very close looks.

Cal assistant Tracy Webster was in the house at Pomona-Pitzer on Friday to watch Freedman, who averaged 13.6 points and 3.6 assists in his first season at Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei. Freedman's biggest offer so far is from USC, which just signed Jonah Mathews, with whom Freedman played as a freshman at Santa Monica (Calif.), before transferring.
