Dykes Hopes to Name Starting QB Day One

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Cal head coach Sonny Dykes hopes to name a starting quarterback "the very moment" someone separates themselves.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- California head coach Sonny Dykes wasn't shy about his quarterback race on Thursday, saying that the Bears could name a starter as soon as the first practice.

At a very well-built 6-foot-5, 235 pounds, Davis Webb is the favorite, and has been eye-opening this summer.

"The very moment someone separates himself, we’ll name a starter," Dykes said. "We’re hoping that happens the first practice."

Dykes said Webb is one of the strongest guys in the program, in the weight room.
