On Monday, five-star point guard Trevon Duval -- the top point guard in the nation -- released his list of top 10 schools via Twitter, a list that includes California, Arizona, USC, Oregon, UCLA, Kansas, Villanova, St. John's (NY), Seton Hall and Maryland. Not on the list are traditional college basketball bluebloods North Carolina and Duke. Also excluded is Baylor, who Duval said earlier this month were prioritizing him, along with Arizona, the Bruins, the Ducks, the Terrapins, Villanova and Baylor were prioritizing him.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect out of Dallas (Tex.) Advanced Preparatory is the No. 3 player in the class of 2017. During the Elite 24 earlier this month, Duval scored 17 points and dished out eight assists, earning co-MVP honors of the Under Armour event. Notably, Cal will switch equipment and uniform providers from NIKE to Under Armour, beginning on July 1, 2017. Maryland is also an Under Armour school, the alma mater of founder Kevin Plank, as is UCLA, again, as of July 1, 2017.
Duval told Scout that he has not yet set up any visits, and that he's unsure whether he will decide early (Nov. 9-16) or late (April 12-May 17, 2017).
Josh Gershon's evaluation: Trevon Duval is one of the top prospects nationally in 2017. He's got good size with very long arms, while he's an outstanding athlete, ball handler and passer. He can make some extremely difficult shots, while he's a good finisher around the basket. Duval has a good combination of very high floor and elite ceiling.
