North Hollywood (Calif.) Harvard-Westlake lineman Liam Douglass pulls down a Cal offer at Junior Day

North Hollywood (Calif.) Harvard-Westlake lineman Liam Douglass talks about his Junior Day offer from Cal, and his foray into the world of wrestling.

California hosted a clutch of 2018 prospects for a Junior Day on the occasion of the Bears' second open practice of the spring, and for at least one recruit, the visit paid off in a big way.

North Hollywood (Calif.) Harvard-Westlake offensive tackle Liam Douglass scored his second offer, and first from a Power 5 school, when at the end of his visit, he sat down with offensive line coach Steve Greatwood.

"I had a great time at junior day, and towards the end they offered me -- I'm really excited to be offered by such a great program with such a strong winning tradition," said the 6-foot-6, 260-pounder. "Coach Greatwood is a fantastic coach and has a deep understanding of the game of football, specifically offensive line play. I'm extremely grateful for this opportunity and am excited about the recruiting process."

That process was originally kicked off by an offer from Central Florida, but it went into overdrive during Saturday's hail storm-interrupted open practice, the midway point of the spring schedule.

"I was very impressed by how fast, physical, and smart everyone was while practicing and and it is clear the coaching staff is very knowledgeable," Douglass said. "Some takeaways: Cal is a fast, intelligent physical team and the coaching staff is implementing a system that is geared for success. I am excited for the recruiting process and just taking it day by day."

Already long, lean and athletic, Douglass just finished his first winter on the wrestling team, something that's sure to make him an even greater asset on the field, like Alex Mack and Dominic Galas before him.

"It was a great first season and I learned a lot," he said. "It was something that I decided to try to gain a better understanding of how my body moves and I learned a lot."

Though the Wolverines have yet to start spring ball, Douglass is already seeing returns on his investment in a pair of wrestling shoes.

"I am already seeing the return in the weight room," he said. "I know once we hit the field it will be very helpful."
