BERKELEY -- California finished off a three-game sweep of Arizona State on Sunday with a 10-2 win, behind 6.2 innings from junior lefty Matt Ladrech and a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a home run by junior third baseman Denis Karas -- the only upperclassman in the Bears lineup -- while shortstop Cameron Eden slugged his third home run of the season.
Five of Cal's 10 runs came home with two outs, as the Bears went 4-for-11 in those situations against the Sun Devils. Cal went 8-for-14 with runners on, while holding Arizona State to 1-for-11 with ducks on the pond. With runners in scoring position, the Sun Devils went just 1-for-5, while the Bears went 6-for-9 with men on second and/or third. Four of Cal's 8 leadoff men reached base, and with runners on third and less than two outs, the Bears went 3-for-4.
Cal did the little things right, despite nearly choking off two rallies with bad base running, going 13-for-17 in advancement opportunities.
