Cal takes on Stanford on Mothers Cay

BERKELEY -- Andrew Vaughn leads Cal in Mothers Day tilt against Stanford.

BERKELEY -- California (21-25, 12-13 in Pac-12) sends lefty Matt Ladrech (2-2, 3.86 ERA) to the mound to face Stanford's Andrew Summerville, who comes in with a 3-1 record in 11 games (9 starts) and a 3.86 ERA.

The Bears dropped the series opener 6-5 in 10 innings on Saturday evening, with freshman first baseman Andrew Vaughn going 2-for-5. He's honoring his mother, Diana, who's had to take medication for a thyroid condition since a surgery during Vaughn's youth scratched her thyroid. She has still been to every single game, including this season in Berkeley.

Vaughn will be wearing a pink arm sleeve for Mothers Day, just as former Bears third baseman Mitchell Kranson honored his mother -- Laura Jo Kranson -- by playing last season for her, after she was diagnosed with cancer. "El Gaucho" is honoring his mother, again, with pink bats this weekend for the Cedar Rapids Colonels, courtesy former teammate Brian Celsi
