Having just finished up finals two weeks ago, Stockton (Calif.) Lincoln forward Andre Kelly -- one of California's prime targets moving forward -- the 6-foot-8, 235-pounder is heading to Berkeley for the first time as a recruit.
"I've been talking to them a lot, and I'm going up there for a visit tomorrow. It's going really well," said Kelly, who's visited Berkeley multiple times before, but only as a fan. "We just talked about the [NBA] Finals, things like that, my playing style, how I'd fit in at Cal and things like that, and how they'd develop my game and things like that."
Kelly will head to Berkeley on Wednesday with his father, looking at the campus -- and the program -- with new eyes.
"I'll be looking at the campus, the drills they work on, how they'd develop me, and how they see me fitting into their system," said Kelly, who's spoken primarily with new head coach Wyking Jones, and recently, more with big man's coach Tim O'Toole. The Bears see Kelly as a stretch three, or a 3-4 combo.
Apart from Cal, Kelly's heard most from Santa Clara, St. Mary's, Pacific, San Diego State and UC Santa Barbara.
"I think I'll check out every campus, before I make my mind up, to make sure it's the right decision," Kelly said. "I think I'll see what's out there."
As for his visit to Cal, Kelly said he'll "see where the day takes me, let the coaches show me around."
Kelly finished this year with a 3.5 grade point average, and will take the SAT in August.
