Jones A Big Bear Target

With a squad full of speedy and talented but diminutive receivers, the Cal Bears established a target of adding size to their receiving corps –beginning last year.

With the commitment of incoming frosh Alex Lagemann and Mike Calvin, as well the commitment of El Camino JC receiver Verran Tucker for 2008, the Bears are well on their way to getting bigger. High on the list of receiving prospects to add to the incoming class is Etiwanda High School WR Marvin Jones. The 6-1 ½ /185 Jones brings a strong combination of speed (4.5 forty), size and productivity, earning 1st Team All-State Underclass in 2006 with 63 receptions and 12 td's for 1306 yards on the year. "I'd have to say that Cal's pretty much #1 with me right now," said Jones. "I recently got an offer from Oregon, too, and I'd say they're a close 2nd." Jones noted his relationship with Cal receivers Coach Dan Ferrigno as well as his respect for Cal Head Coach Jeff Tedford as well as his respect for the program as some of the main draws to the Bears. With 13 offers from the previously noted schools as well as Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State and others, Jones has no shortage of programs to consider, however he doesn't plan on rushing into a decision. "I'd like to take at least a couple of official visits before I commit," said Jones. "I think it will probably end up being some time in October or November. Wherever he ends up, the 4 star Jones will provide a tempting target. Top Stories
