Cal a Possibility for SoCal OL

Irvine (Calif.) OL Nik Abele took an official trip to Colorado last month. He has set up three more trips one to a MWC school and the others to the Pac-10. For his final trip, he is undecided, but it will also be to a Pac-10 school and quite possibly may be Cal…

The 6-6 250 Nik Abele visited Colorado on Nov. 8th and now that Irvine High School (8-4) concluded its season last weekend with a playoff loss, the offensive tackle is free to explore some his other suitors, the Sun Devils among them.

"Arizona State offered me a couple of months ago," said Abele who's being recruited by ASU's recruiting coordinator and safeties coach Matt Lubick. "I'm going to visit them on the 12th. I've never been there before but I heard that it's nice place with great facilities. I like that they're in the desert too.

"I'm going to visit Utah on the 19th and UCLA on January 9th."

Most of the schools are recruiting Abele strictly as an offensive tackle, but ASU has indicated to him that he could get a shot at playing defensive end. "I always liked defense more," said Abele who tallied 50 tackles and five sacks as a senior. "But I guess I really don't care where I play."

Abele reported a 40-yard time of 4.9, so speed is one skill that he would like to improve on. "I do a good job run blocking," he commented. "But I could really improve on all of my skills, get stronger."

In the weight room the lineman reported marks of 420 lbs., in the squat, 315 in the bench and 340 in the power clean.

"I can't see myself making a decision before I take all my visits," said Abele. "I still might visit Cal or Oregon State. The last visits is gonna be between those teams."
