Meadows Recaps Cal Trip

San Jose City College LB Jerome Meadows expected to get an offer from California this weekend on this official visit. He got the offer. But did he see and hear enough for him to pull the trigger on the Golden Bears?

Jerome Meadows (6-3, 235) prefers to play outside linebacker than defensive end. With the switch to the 3-4 defense, the California Golden Bears have been targeting fast, athletic linebackers like Meadows.

"I love outside [linebacker] that is my position," said Meadows. "But [at Cal] I still can line up with my hand down. They (Cal coaches) said I have an opportunity to play all four [linebacker positions]."

Meadows says an offer from Cal was imminent. "The linebacker coach (Kenwick Thompson) told me before I came," Meadows said of any surprise of receiving his official offer from the Bears.

He still said it was inspiring to talk and receive the offer from head coach Jeff Tedford.

"It was good," Meadows said of his trip – his only official visit to date. "I liked everything…the academic side. The football program is great. They've been good for a long while. Brian [Holley] was my host. He's a real nice guy."

The Cal offer firmly places the Bears atop his list of schools. But he is not ready to pull the trigger just yet. "I got to think things through first," said Meadows.

He has a visit to Kansas tentatively scheduled for January 14-16. Meadows says Oregon was suppose to come down last week to visit him but something came up last minute with the coaches' flight. An official trip to Boise State is also still a possibility.

Despite feeling no pressure from the Golden Bear coaches to make a decision, the possibility of him choosing Cal is apparent.

"I have no idea when I will decide," said Meadows. "[The trip] is still fresh in my mind. I'm soaking it all in. I may decide before taking those trips."
