Four-Star Taking Second Look at Cal

College of the Sequoias (Calif.) safety Anthony "Juice" Leon committed to Oregon last month. However, the four-star standout maybe rethinking his decision and according to his assistant coach, he wants to visit California…

Anthony Leon (6-4, 230), aka Juice, signed with Florida State out of high school and spent two seasons in Tallahassee before coming out to Central California to play at College of the Sequoias. In one season, Leon became one of the biggest JUCO safety recruits in the nation. Arizona, Arkansas, California, Minnesota, Oregon, and USC among others officially offered him before he verbally committed to Oregon in December.

Returning to Florida State was an option, but it was evident Leon wanted to stay out West to finish his college career. California was an early favorite as was UCLA, Oregon, USC, and Arizona. Despite receiving an early offer from the Golden Bears, he never set up an official visit. His interest in the Wildcats and Trojans subsided, leaving the Ducks as his apparent top choice.

Now, with signing day just over two weeks away, Leon has decided taking a second look at Cal is worthwhile.

"Juice wants to visit Cal," said COS DB Coach Tony Perry. "People have been telling him about Cal and how it would be better spot at safety for him."

Cal has had a very quite recruiting period in terms of official visitors thus far in 2009. Cal is very close to fulfilling its allotment of available scholarships. A few spots remain open for highly touted prospects that have yet to decide on their college choice, and Cal may create another for Leon as well.

"I talked to [Defensive Coordinator] Coach [Bob] Gregory about getting [Leon] a visit," said Perry. "He says they have filled their scholarships but says he will call [head coach] Jeff [Tedford]."
