Doss Report: Cal Signing Day 2009

California Golden Bear head coach Jeff Tedford held his annual signing day press conference on Wednesday afternoon. Cal Sports Digest's Jon Doss reports from the presser and has Tedford's comments on specifics of the class…

The California Golden Bears 2009 football recruiting class finished as the No. 34 ranked class in the nation, according to Scout.com. Cal's class was flirting with a top 20 ranking just a few weeks ago. Despite not landing a few blue chippers down the stretch, it still was a legitimate top 25 class until Wednesday. Cal fans saw firsthand how far a class could drop when it replaces a four-star All-American offensive lineman with an unrated one-star kicker.

If Stan Hasiak had stayed committed to Cal and the Bears landed either Devon Kennard, Adam Hall, or Randall Carroll it would have changed the look of the class dramatically. As it is, the 2009 class addressed many needs. Coach Jeff Tedford seemed content with the class, but discontent that communication broke down with few recruits as signing day approached.
