Pittsburgh native Frank Cignetti Jr. has been named offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Pittsburgh, it was announced Wednesday by Pitt head coach Dave Wannstedt.

Cignetti was hired by Cal head coach Jeff Tedford last season after spending one-year as the San Francisco 49ers QB coach. He replaced 2006 offensive coordinator Jim Michalczik, who remained on staff as the OL coach, assistant offensive coordinator and assistant head coach. Michalczik left Cal after the season to become the offensive coordinator at Washington only to leave the Huskies a short time later to become an assistant with the Raiders.

Tedford has not had an offensive coordinator longer than one season since George Cortez coached the offense Tedford's first four years in Berkeley. Mike Dunbar replaced Cortez in 2006. He was hired to from Northwestern to install some "spread" to Tedford's traditional pro-style offense.

Last season under Cignetti, the Cal offense averaged 32.6 points and 376 yards per game last season. The offense also produced its seventh straight 1,000-yard rusher. Top Stories
