No. 4 seed California (25-6) vs. No. 13 seed Fresno State (24-8)
Saturday, March 21 in Los Angeles 5 p.m. PT ESPN2
California is headed back to the Galen Center.
The Golden Bears women's basketball will face Fresno State in a first round NCAA Tournament matchup on Saturday in Los Angeles. It's the same venue Cal suffered its controversial 69-67 loss to USC in the Pac-10 Tournament a week ago.
While the thought of playing No. 1 Connecticut in the Sweet 16 is daunting, the Bears draw familiar teams in the opening rounds.
Cal beat Fresno State by four points (83-79) last year at the Save Mart Center in Fresno without the services of Devanei Hampton as well it was Alexis Gray-Lawson's first game back from ACL surgery. The Bears are a much different team from a year ago as is the Bulldogs. Nonetheless, Cal's inside presence should push them through to the next round against No. 5 seed Virginia/No/ 12 seed Marist winner. The Cal coaching staff is very familiar with both teams. If the Bears take care of business, more than likely, they will face the Huskies in Trenton.
Cal Sports Digest's Jon Doss caught up with head coach Joanne Boyle and Ashley Walker on selection Monday for their thoughts on the seeding, bracket, and playing two-time WAC champions Fresno State in the first round.
