Bay Area RB Talks Cal

"I had a great time meeting coaches and spending time with the other recruits. Cal has a great campus as well as great coaches."

San Mateo (Calif.) Serra running back Adonis Smith has kept himself plenty busy this spring. Smith has balanced track and his football recruitment and has been having success in both respects.

"Our 4x100 meter relay track team just competed in the Sacramento Meet of Champions Saturday, posting one of our fastest times of the year," said Smith.

And that was just the beginning.

"To cap it off, I just received an offer from San Diego State University I am really excited and honored to get this offer," said Smith. "I know about their history of having one of the greatest running backs in college and NFL history in Marshall Faulk. Also, they have a new Head Coach, Brady Hoke, who was successful at Ball State as well as a new staff, I think they will be an exciting team to watch this year."

One of the Aztecs' assistants made the offer.

"The offer was made by Coach Dan Ferrigno," said Smith. "Coach Ferrigno said that he will be coming down in the next couple of weeks to see me at school during his recruiting visits. I am looking forward to meeting him and learning more about the Aztecs."

In late April, Smith took in Junior Day at California.

"I had a great time meeting coaches and spending time with the other recruits. Cal has a great campus as well as great coaches. I got a chance to meet coach Tosh Lupoi and defensive coordinator Bob Gregory again. I also got a chance to meet Coach Andy Ludwig, Coach Brendan Ferrigno and Coach Kevin Parker. The coaches said they are really excited about me and look forward to recruiting me."

Smith concluded the visit by talking with running backs coach Ron Gould.

"After the tour I got a chance to meet and talk with Coach Gould. It was great to talk with him and watch film. Cal is really a great place."

In addition to the San Diego State offer, Smith has offers from Washington State and Utah.

Last fall, Smith ran for 644 yards on 90 carries and eight touchdowns and was the fifth leading scorer in WCAL and first among juniors.
