Center of Attention

California has signed a center in each of the last two recruiting classes. While Cal has received a commitment from Chris Adcock – prep offensive tackle projected to play inside – the Bears have yet to offer a true center. The coaches have been looking at a few prospects including a California JUCO – who recently received an offer from the SEC – with high interest in Cal's academics and program...

Visalia (Calif.) College of the Sequoias center Randy Richards (6-4, 310) originally signed with Florida Atlantic out of Royal Palm Beach (Fla.) High School in 2008. Despite having an offer to return to FAU, he is keeping his options open after his solid play last season has garnered two more offers.

Arkansas and Texas State have offered Richards this spring with a host of other schools still evaluating the Florida transplant. California special team coach Pete Alamar was in Visalia earlier this month checking in on offensive tackle Roszell Gayden, who has a Golden Bear offer. Cal is also looking at Richards, defensive tackle Lavon McCoy, and safety Shamar Gaines.

Richards anchors arguably the best offensive line at the junior college level. He says Cal likes his size. Richards says he likes the idea of obtaining a degree from Berkeley. He is also hearing from Arizona State, Kansas State, Miami, USF, and Utah among others.
