Bears in the Hunt for Odighizuwa

Portland (Ore.) Douglas defensive end Owamagbe Odighizuwa has plans for official visits in the fall. Cal is currently in his top five. Furthermore, the Bears are the only school recruiting him for position other than defensive end...

Owamagbe Odighizuwa is anxious for the fall to come, as it will give the four-star pass rusher a chance to take his five official visits.

Odighizuwa has named a top five, but still a few more schools are in the mix in addition to the five he's named.

"It's not a rock solid thing, but my top five is Florida, Cal, USC, UCLA and Oregon State," said Odighizuwa. "There are also a couple schools that I'm keeping in the mix in Oregon, Nebraska and Stanford."

Odighizuwa has seen half of the Pac-10 schools and plans to see at least two more in the fall as well as the defending champs.

"During the spring I visited four schools, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington and Stanford and in the earlier part of summer, I visited Cal," said Odighizuwa. "I'm planning to take all five of my visits and I'm pretty anxious to see UCLA, USC and Florida."

Odighizuwa said that none of his visits have been set up just yet, but that he's planning to space them out.

"None are set up yet, but I'll probably take a few during the season, and then 2-3 after the season is done," said Odighizuwa. "I'm playing in the U.S. Army All-American Game, so I could be announcing at the Army Game, but it could be closer to Signing Day."

Odighizuwa said the Cal visit was the only trip he could squeeze in during a busy summer, but he plans to return there in the fall. Florida was a scheduled stop, for last weekend's Friday Night Lights, but conflicts kept that from happening.

"I was kind of bummed about that, but I'm looking forward to going down there during the season. I know I want to visit Florida on a gameday weekend," said Odighizuwa.

Odighizuwa said the relationships he's been developing with the coaches at each school have been helpful.

"All the coaches have been really cool to talk to and I've enjoyed talking football and life with them," said Odighizuwa. "At Florida, Coach Brian White is recruiting me, at Cal it's Tosh Lupoi, at USC it's Rocky Seto, at UCLA it's Tim Hundley and at Oregon State it's been coach Jay Locey."

Each school has told Odighizuwa that they want him as a defensive end strictly, save Cal, who's recruiting him as a hybrid.

One of the premier prospects in Oregon, Odighizuwa said the process hasn't been that draining on him and there hasn't been any real pressure to stay home.

"Haven't felt any pressure at all to stay in state," said Odighizuwa. "I'm enjoying the process too, but I am anxious to get on the field."

Academically, Odighizuwa is in fine shape, carrying a 3.45 GPA and planning to take the SAT in the fall.

The Defensive Player of the Year in the Mt. Hood Conference as a junior, Odighizuwa racked up 96 tackles, with 22 for loss and 18 sacks.
