Cal Cruises Past Princeton, 81-60

BERKELEY, CA -- California won its second game in a row on Sunday afternoon at Haas Pavilion blowing by Princeton 81-60. Jamal Boykin matched his career high with 22 points and Jerome Randle also added 22...

"I was concerned because our health is a real issue right now," said Cal head coach Mike Montgomery.

"We have a lot of guys that are less than 100 percent. Our two days of practice that we had were less than what we would have liked, just based on the fact that we had guys sick and hurt. Jerome didn't practice for two of the three days and was part-time yesterday. Jorge was out yesterday. Markhuri is out. Of course, Theo is out and Harper is out. Patrick was under the weather. It was very difficult.

"The thing you want to do with Princeton is work on what they do, the way they play and their back-cuts. We just did not have a lot of time. We made too many mistakes- too many turnovers - that I thought were unforced. Jorge had an IV prior to the game to get his fluids up, but by halftime he was really hurt. So, we asked our kids off the bench to give us a hand. I said, 'You guys are going to need to come in and play.'

"I thought Max was really good. I thought that his size caused them problems inside and they were certainly aware of him inside. I thought Jerome did a really good job assisting. Obviously, nine assists is the best job he has done. He made some players better.

"Ironically, the thing that we tried to caution our guys against was getting in foul trouble, which was the first thing that Patrick did, so that was one less guy that we had. All in all, it was a good win for us given the circumstances and the fact that a lot of people were in positions they had not really been in before and have to play significant minutes. We'll see if we can get healthy because it really gets difficult at this point."
