Bears Offer Rising TE

Portland (Ore.) Jesuit tight end Jacob Wark is seeing his recruitment take off as his team is making their drive towards a state title. Cal is the latest school to throw its hat into the mix...

Jacob Wark (6-4, 240) was offered by Cal head coach Jeff Tedford on Monday.

"He told me they saw my film and they liked it a lot," said Wark. "And then Pete Alomar, the tight ends coach, he came out and watched me play and he said they were really excited by what they saw, that I played with passion and with heart and that I really got down the field.

"Coach Tedford told me I was the perfect tight end they were looking for -- and that he was excited to offer me a scholarship."

Wark said his official visit date to Berkeley will be set later, depending on if Jesuit makes the state championship game. They play in the OSAA Class 6A semis this Friday.

The full ride from Cal may have just been proffered this week but the Golden Bears have had their eye on Wark for some time. Coach Ron Gould is the area recruiter for Cal on Wark.

"I've been talking to coach Gould ever since he came in last spring," said Wark.

Wark said he did not have a timetable on when he would make his decision.

Wark now holds offers from Cal, Vanderbilt and Air Force. The Washington and Oregon State are also keeping close tabs.

"I've been talking to Washington a bit, Oregon State a bit, I talked to them towards the end of the regular season," said Wark.
