Cal in Tennessee Athlete's Top Five

Jackson (Tenn.) Trinity Christian athlete Jabriel Washington, a 150 member, has received several scholarship offers from across the nation. He talks about his offers and early favorites...

"I received an offer today from Alabama," said Jabriel Washington (5-11, 165). "I found out about the offer today. My coach spoke to coach Cignetti and coach Saban. Then I spoke to both of them.

"They talked to me a lot. They talked about the school and the players they have who will be leaving after next year. They also talked about the position I could play. Coach Saban said they will have two seniors leaving at receiver and possibly even Julio Jones.

Jabriel Washington has Cal on
his list of favorites.
"He told me I could play either receiver or cornerback. I might be leaning towards playing DB [defensive back], but I don't know yet.

"It's great to get an offer from Alabama. I have been waiting on them for a while. I guess hard work pays off in the end. I went down to Alabama last year for the Tennessee game. They may not have had the best talent on the field, but the coaching staff makes up for it.

"You can tell with the way they performed on the field they have a great coaching staff. That team went on to win the National Championship. I had a great visit when I went there, and I really liked their campus."

Washington's list of double-digit offers is impressive which includes a list of early favorites.

"I have offers from Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, LSU, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Illinois, Oregon, California, Ohio State, Colorado, Michigan and Boston College," Washington said. "USC contacted me this past week. Florida might be close to offering me as well. Those are really the only schools.

"My top five is Tennessee, LSU, Georgia, Alabama and Cal and Ohio State. That list is in no particular order. I think I could make an early decision, but probably more towards the fall. I don't have an overall favorite."

Washington shared some insight about several of his other favorites.

Tennessee: "I talked to coach Dooley once before. I can see in his personality he is a coach I could play for."

LSU: "I went down to the night game against Florida. The atmosphere was amazing. I like the coaches down there. It felt like home down there."

Georgia: "They were the first team I ever liked. I have family that lives there. It made me a Georgia fan. It was the first camp I went to as a recruit."

Cal: "I talked to some coaches, but haven't made a trip out there. I probably will go out there next year. I haven't seen the campus, but I like the coaches."

Ohio State: "I haven't taken a visit up there. I have talked to coach Tressell and Sicilliano. I am interested in them."

Washington has Junior Day visits on tap to Alabama on Feb. 20, Tennessee on Feb. 27 and LSU on March 20.
