Lavonte Barnett (6-2, 231), had been quietly picking up offers throughout the spring, but a big showing at the California All-American Showcase camp over the weekend really solidified his recruitment.

"Cal offered me as an athlete," said Barnett. "They like me as a tight end, linebacker or defensive end. Other schools have just offered me defensively and some offensively, but I have seven offers altogether."

In addition to Cal, Colorado State, Washington State, Cal Poly, San Jose State, UC Davis and Sacramento State have offered Barnett.

He's got five in-state offers and three other Golden State programs are watching him closely.

"I've been talking to coaches at SC, and they want to see me at their Rising Stars so I think I'm going to the camp. They like me as an athlete," said Barnett.

"And UCLA too said they are big on guys coming to their camp and they like my build, so I'm going to their skills camp. They definitely see my position as an outside linebacker and want me to come to the camp to see my athleticism. Fresno State, the coach really likes me, and he said he'll evaluate me after he sees some film from the first four games."

Barnett said Cal and Washington State are his two favorites at this point.

"Cal was a good experience and I really liked the coaching staff," said Barnett. "And Washington State, I've hit it off with the coaches really well and I have the same birthday as one of them."

But Barnett isn't in a rush to make a decision.

"I definitely want to see what other offers I can get and know what all of my options are," said Barnett. "So I'm talking with a lot of coaches."

Barnett has played tight end and defensive end, but said he's open to anything.

"I've always liked the ball in my hands but I've never played linebacker, so that's something new for me, but I like playing anywhere," said Barnett.

Academically, Barnett is in fine shape with a 3.5 GPA and a 1610 on the SAT and plans for the ACT this upcoming weekend.
