Cal Targets Camping at Passing Down

The fourth annual Passing Down Camp kicks off Friday night at Fresno (Calif.) Central's Deran Koligian Stadium. The same stadium that saw Cal top running back recruit Brendon Bigelow outrun opponents last season. Bigelow along with Cal QB commit Kyle Boehm, James Sample, and Shaquille Thompson among other Cal recruits are expected to attend the camp…

Brendon Bigelow will not compete at Passing Down, but the four-star running back will on the sidelines cheering on his teammates. Team 559, led by Central quarterback Mike Baker and wide receiver B.J. Kelley – both camped at Cal last month – will be one of six teams competing in Friday night's Passing Down Elite 7-on-7 challenge. Cal 2012 offeree Tee Shepard is also expected to be along side Bigelow as he continues to nurse his injured finger.

Kyle Boehm will quarterback Team Pro Sport. One of's newest four-star prospects is now rated the No. 14th quarterback in the nation. He will finally get the chance to oppose 10th rated quarterback Cody Kessler on Friday night. Kessler's 7-on-7 squad features elite 2012 tight end/defensive end prospect Ian Taubler. Taubler visited Cal in April and has named Cal as one of his early favorites.

Team NorCal – quarterbacked by Durham's (Calif.) Nelson Fishback – will have one of Cal's latest offerees James Sample. His teammate Shaquille Thompson, former Bear Syd'Quan Thompson's younger brother, is one of the Cal's top defensive back recruits in the 2012 class.

Other notable prospects competing on Friday with Cal interest include three-star Fresno (Calif.) Edison outside linebacker Shaquille Moseley and Fresno (Calif.) Memorial 2012 running back Chris Brown.

On Saturday and Sunday, when lineman are incorporated into the camp, 2012 Cal offensive line prospect Stephon McCray will look to repeat as Passing Down OL MVP. Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West defensive end/linebacker Donavon Lewis, who camped at Cal last month, will also compete. Bigelow, who had his coming out party at Passing Down, was the overall camp MVP last year.
