Basketball Season Begins With MidKnight Madness

ORLANDO – UCF basketball fans will get their first glimpse of the season ahead when the Golden Knights host MidKnight Madness on Oct. 17 at UCF Arena to officially open the preseason. The evening will start with the UCF volleyball team taking on Campbell beginning at 7 p.m. There will be an autograph session following the game with women's volleyball and both the men and women's hoops teams at 10 p.m. before festivities officially begin at 10:30 p.m.

For the hour-and-a-half leading up to midnight, there are various activities planned including dance routines by Knight Moves, a two-ball competition and a student dunk contest. The UCF Pep Band will be on hand and fans will also have the opportunity to win prizes.

The women's team will take the floor first as the clock counts down to "MidKnight" and following introductions the players will have the opportunity to show off their skills and will conclude their segment with a 10-minute scrimmage.

"MidKnight Madness is like a party because of the exciting atmosphere with all the entertainment and giveaways," said fifth-year head coach Gail Striegler. "It gives our players the opportunity to finally practice and allows the fans to see what our team is all about."

The 2002-03 Atlantic Sun regular season champions, the Golden Knights finished with a 19-11 overall mark and went 13-3 in conference play. They open up the current season with an exhibition game against Premier Players on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.

The UCF men's team, which won a record-tying 21 games last season, is scheduled to hit the floor at approximately 12:20 p.m. Similar to the women, following introductions and warm-ups, will have a 10-minute scrimmage in their first official practice of the season.

"We are very excited about this event," stated head coach Kirk Speraw. "It is an excellent opportunity for fans to meet this year's team. The players are eager to get started and are anxious for the challenges of the upcoming season."

The men's team will return to the arena on Saturday, Oct. 18 for a practice session beginning at 4 p.m. UCF will play one exhibition game prior to the start of the season as they host St. Leo on Nov. 13. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. quick links:
