UCF at Tulsa: Final Game Preview

Our final preview as the Knights travel to Tulsa to take on the Golden Hurricanes. Here are the most important things for UCF, and what to watch for during the game.

UCF Knights vs. University of Tulsa Golden Hurricanes
Sunday, October 26th, 2008 8:00pm
H.A. Chapman Stadium, Tulsa, OK

2008 records: UCF - 2-4, #19 Tulsa-7-0
Series history: UCF leads 2-1, Last meeting: 2007 CUSA Championship, UCF 44 Tulsa 25

Five most important things for UCF:

1. Win time of possession. Tulsa has the number one offense in the nation, keeping them on the sideline is the best way to prevent them from scoring.

2. Torrell Troup needs to have a big day. He is the guy that makes the Knights defense go, and he dominated the past two games, and will need to do so again. If he can force David Johnson out of the pocket, the Knights will force turnovers and make sacks.

3. Win field position battle. If the Knights force the Tulsa offense to try and go 80 yards every drive they should be able to stop them, or at least slow them down considerably. If the UCF offense is given a short field versus the porous Tulsa defense they should be able to capitalize.

4. Win the turnover battle. This one may sound a bit repetitive, but Tulsa had an equally potent offense last year and they way the Knights beat them was by forcing timely turnovers.

5. Keep the crowd out of the game. It is a Sunday night game and Tulsa is ranked so it should be a sellout crowd regardless, add in the fact they are retiring All-time great Steve Largent's jersey, and their will be a lot of energy in the stadium. The quicker the crowd is quieted, the better.

What to look for:

1. Look for Knights to stay balanced on offense. Having a healthy Greco back should allow the Knights to open things back up a bit.

2. Look for the stable of RB's to play. O'Leary has not been happy with the running game, so he will try to see who can get it done, by playing more than just Weaver. Don't be surprised to see three or four backs get carries.

3. Look for special teams to make a big difference.
Blake (Clingan) and Joe (Burnett) had great games in Miami and kept the Knights in the game. Burnett is ranked 3rd in the nation in kick returns and 11th in punt returns, so if Tulsa elects to kick to him watch out.

4. Look for the Knights to beat the spread. Tulsa is favored by 24, in a rivalry game, and the Knights are getting healthier, about as healthy as they will be from here on out, and they will be able to stay in this one.

5. Look for Michael Greco to have a big game. He is back and healthy. Greco looked good in games where he was 80%-90%, and against a terrible Tulsa defense, he should have a field day.
