Inside Recruiting With John Bernstein

A lot has changed since the last blog which was just one month ago. There is a growing list of players that UCF is in contention for and the race to get the signatures of some talented players is on.

Long snapping has been a problem all year. However, this will change starting next year, as UCF is bringing in Matt Morrison from local Timber Creek High School. He is one of the best long snappers in the nation and has gone to national long snapping competitions, placing very high (no I didn't know they had long snapping competitions either). According to sources close to Morrison, he is not receiving a full scholarship but is receiving a package of some sort and has been in attendance to all the Knights home games so far, as well as several practices during the summer.

Players that appear to favor UCF

Nico Flores- *** star QB from North Miami Beach, Florida

It makes sense for several reasons. He views the Knights as a growing program close to home at which he can compete for a starting job early on. He also loves the coaches and how hard they are recruiting him, he feels as though UCF is showing him a lot of love. Also UCF is recruiting talented teammate Kemal Ishmael, and they may have a chance to continue on their relationship for another four years.

Flores seems to have Boston College and UCF at the top of his list and his recruitment is being monitored closely by his high school coach. It's tough to tell where he will end up because of this, but the Knights will be in contention for the strong armed quarterback.

Hoover Duo

By now you know who they are, talented DB's Pat Miller (***) and Brian Jackson (***). Miller projects as a lockdown corner and Jackson as a bone-crushing safety. They plan to be in attendance for the ECU game this Sunday, and this could solidify UCF as their true favorite.

Josh Robinson- *** CB Plantation, Fl. His commit will be coming in a month in front of his church congregation, but he has UCF as his favorite right now. He is coming up again this Sunday for the ECU game and appears to be leaning more and more towards UCF with the possibility of playing early heavy on his mind. USF will be in the mix too and I have a feeling that UCF coaches will be awaiting anxiously until Robinson makes his decision late next month.

Players that UCF has a small shot at

Denard Robinson- **** CB from Deerfield Beach, FL

He wants to play QB, that is the only reason UCF is in the hunt. He seemed like a lock to go to Florida a couple months ago, but it appears as though he is beginning to question their sincerity about trying him out at quarterback, or his ability to get playing time there as one. Michigan, UCF and West Virginia are the only other schools recruiting him as a QB. He should be visiting soon, and it is always a possibility, but it still appears that Florida is the favorite here.

Al-Terek McBurse- ** star RB (highly underrated), Winter Springs, Fl

UCF hasn't and appears it won't offer him as a RB. USF and GT have and are recruiting him pretty hard, along with a handful of other schools which he will not be visiting. UCF would be a lock if they offered him at RB because he has that much love for the school, but he still is considering the Knights with their offer to him as a DB. With the current situation, the Jackets are the favorites with the Knights slightly ahead of the Bulls, but there is still a chance they could get him as he is really torn between playing the position he loves and knows, and going to the school he loves and knows.

Andre Debose- ***** WR Seminole, Fl

It appears at this time that Dyron Dye and Ray Ray Armstrong will be heading elsewhere, and that the trio will not be staying together. Dye doesn't like LSU, Armstrong doesn't like UCF, and Debose is the only one that likes Florida. Armstrong and Dye appear as though they will stick together and go to Miami, and that Debose will choose between LSU, Florida, and UCF as a long shot. The trio just doesn't seem to be a possibility any more as Armstrong does not seem to be wavering on his stance against coming to UCF.
