Knights Lineman for the Future

With recruiting for the class of 2009 in full swing, recruiting for the class of 2010 isn't getting much attention. However there is a big prospect that has the Knights high on his list.

Austin Shepherd is the type of athlete that coaches dream of, no he is not a skilled position player, he is a 6'5" 320 lb. offensive line prospect that has quick feet and incredible strength.

Although this talented junior has yet to receive an offer he has received high interest from big time programs like Florida, Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia, Georgia Tech and UCF. He has visited those all of those school unofficially and list the Knights and Gamecocks at the top of his list. Shepherd visited UCF for the USF game and came away very impressed.

"I love the campus and all the coaches," Shepherd told "Coaches mean a lot to me, because they will be guiding me through the next four years of my life. I also like that it is in Orlando, and in the center of everything."

Shepherd can already bench 375 pounds and will get another year to improve on that. His efforts have helped his North Gwinnett team have a 9-2 and a playoff appearance in the Georgia state playoffs.

"Right now I am just focusing on football, we are in the second round of the playoffs now."

North Gwinnett will certainly be a popular site for college coaches next year as Shepherd and fellow teammates Cordero Dixon and Juwan James all have big time talent. The Knights appear to be in great position with Austin and will certainly try to get involved with his teammates.

With on field success meshed with excellent work out numbers, Shepherd, an ESPNU 150 watch list member, will be a highly touted recruit next year and the Knights seemingly have the inside track on him.
