UCF State of Recruiting: Linebackers

With the season officially over and two months until National Signing Day, it's time for UCF fans, coaches and media alike to turn towards recruiting. Who will be a Knight, who will the team lose out on? Find out where UCF stands at every position in our "State of Recruiting" series. Today we'll discuss linebackers.

Current position outlook: UCF had an abundance of depth at linebacker this year and will have even more this upcoming season.

Senior backer Cory Hogue missed most of the season with a lower leg injury, so he could be redshirted and have another crack at it for the Knights. Derrick Hallman did a solid job replacing him and is an excellent playmaker. Lawrence Young was the team's other outside backer and was all over the place this year, finishing with 72 tackles. Chance Henderson is also stout in the middle and will be back next year as a senior.

Number of players UCF will likely accept: Troy Davis and Javen Harris currently make up UCF's LB commits and don't expect much more. The Knights might be open to the right target, but they seem content with Davis and Harris and likely won't go after any more backers.

Potential commits-

Leader(s): Both Harris and Davis are very strong commitments at this point, especially Davis, who is basically not talking to anyone else. With UCF not looking at any more LBs, adding anyone else to this list doesn't make sense.

Second Options: If one of UCF's current commits fall through, the Knights will turn back to Mike Marry. Marry is a terrific player but the Knights are no longer recruiting him because they are confident with their 2009 LB class right now. Marry liked the Knights and if they turned up the intensity on him, he could be an option again.

Dark Horse(s):
Again, with no new commits likely coming in, it's hard to talk about a dark horse. We'd throw out a name like Jon Bostic but there probably isn't a whole lot of reciprocated interest for now.

How we see things panning out:
In case you cannot tell, we don't see UCF adding any backers to this class. However, the Knights will add a freakishly Davis to the mix and a fundamentally sound Harris. The two are very solid commits and we expect them to be donning gold in a year from now.
