Season Preview: Offensive Line

With the season sneaking up on UCF fans, InsideKnights.com presents you with our annual Season Preview series, which consists of position breakdowns, predictions and other essential information for any Knights fan. Next we'll discuss the offensive line.

Season Preview: Offensive Line

Depth Chart: Nick Pieschel (LT), Abre Leggins (LG), Ian Bustillo (C), Steve Robinson (RG), Jah Reid (RT), Cliff McCray (G), Chad Hounshell (T), Jarien Moreland (T), Zac Norris (C), Mike Buxton (T), John Oliver (T)

Strengths: This group went from a significant weakness to somewhat of a strength…Offseason additions Abre Leggins and Cliff McCray give the Knights power and overall talent that they lacked last year; Leggins is a mauler inside…Moose Robinson entering the lineup also beefs up the offensive line. He can become dominant in the next few years…Reid had a great summer and the massive tackle might be living up to his potential…Young redshirt freshmen like Hounshell and Moreland add depth…Pieschel is growing into his 6'7" frame and is looking more athletic this year…Bustillo is a crafty veteran who will lead the offensive line. The good news is he's at the right position to do so.

Weaknesses: The group really doesn't have too much experience, as Bustillo is the only senior starter the team has…The guards look great but the tackles must prove themselves through the season. They are definitely improved but Reid and Pieschel must continue to grow and remain consistent…McCray might be able to make a big impact if he gets back in game shape, he looked to be getting there this summer.

Overall: UCF has the depth now and the surrounding talent to get its run game back on track up front. As long as the team gets desired leadership from Bustillo and everyone buys in to Charlie Taaffe's system, the front five should be solid.

Prediction: Believe it or not, the offensive line might be UCF's best overall group on offense. With the additions to the roster of Leggins, Robinson and McCray, the Knights are looking good inside. We have our doubts about Pieschel and Reid but they have the raw ability to get it done and they keep getting better. If they stay motivated, this group of players can help the Knights' offense improve drastically.
