With the season in full swing, many UCF fans have put recruiting on the back burner. With 15 commits already and potentially 16 once some paperwork comes through, the recruiting season is just picking up.
Going into the offseason, we projected the Knights to have roughly 14-17 scholarships open and that number is likely a little higher now. UCF probably has roughly four or five more scholarships available and will probably only take commits high on their board.
We saw this in the past month, when the Knights were selective and took only commits that they were very high on. Quenton Brown, the star end from Tucker H.S. (Ga.), was one of the best defensive ends on UCF's board, and the same goes for the underrated commits from Carvers' Bay, S.C. Both Clayton Geathers and Davious Chestnut weren't highly-touted players, but the Knights loved what they saw in both players. The two should complete UCF's work in the secondary this recruiting season.
The Knights also appear to be pretty content along their offensive line, with five commits there thus far. The McCray twins and Perry Meiklejohn are as strong of commits as they come, so the Knights will probably only keep tackle spots open for elite prospects like Dan Foose.
So who will UCF be targeting to fill its remaining slots? Look for mainly defensive linemen and receivers to complete the class. Michaelee Harris and Allen Hurns are two Miami area prospects that the Knights are very high on. Both have a substantial amount of interest in UCF and either one could be making a decision within the next month. Joshua Reese is also a player to keep an eye on.
Jarrett Darmstatter is a defensive end/ tight end type that the team also likes. He will be making a commitment in October and has UCF pretty high on his list. Clarence Murphy has Maryland high on his list but the defensive end would have his ears open if the in-state Knights turned up the heat.
One other player that UCF could sneak up on is Marcus Shaw. He's a terrific runner and he'd be able to make an impact as a true freshman at UCF. He probably wants to stay close to home, so look for the Knights to be contenders with him as well.
