UCF has already made its mark on the South Florida area for the 2010 recruiting class. With five commits from the area, the Knights are establishing themselves as regulars in one of the most fertile recruiting territories in the nation and they are just heating up as they are more than in the mix for Allen Hurns.
The three-star receiver from Carol City H.S. (Miami, Fla.) has received interest from plenty of regional schools but he has his top three narrowed.
"Right now it's Miami, UCF and West Virginia," Hurns told InsideKnights.com.
Things haven't quite gone as planned during Hurns' senior campaign. Hurns tore his meniscus early in the year and his team fell to 2-3 by the time October rolled around. However, the Warriors are hanging tough while Hurns recuperates, as they've won their past two games and Hurns should be joining them before the regular season ends.
"I'm feeling better and am going to rehab three times a week. I'll be ready in a few weeks."
By the time Hurns gets on the field again, he'll be close to making a decision on where he'll be playing college ball.
"I'll make my choice around the end of November."
He was receiving attention from Ole Miss but the Rebels backed away after his injury, leaving the Knights in the final three for Hurns. The biggest obstacle for UCF will be convincing Hurns that he'll be used regularly, as he has expressed concerns with who will be getting him the ball.
Hurns has also expressed an interest in playing early and he said that Miami's depth at wide receiver won't affect his decision.
While Miami and UCF each have their positives and negatives in Hurns' eyes, it seems that West Virginia is making the biggest impact at this time.
"West Virginia is probably recruiting me the hardest of anyone."
With the Hurns sweepstakes almost over, it will be interesting to see which of these three teams make the final push and land the dynamic receiver.
Where do Knights rank for Hurns?
