Florida Shooting Guard Commits to CMU

The Central Michigan University men's basketball program has secured a verbal commitment from one of the top prep players in the state of Florida.

Chippewas Insider has learned that shooting guard Austin Keel of Winter Park (Fla.) High School has verbally committed to Central Michigan University during an official visit to campus this weekend.

A 6-foot-2 shooting guard with great shooting range, Keel averaged 14 points and five rebounds in helping lead the Wildcats to a 28-5 overall record rhis season and the Florida 6A State Championship.

A member of the Gold Coast AAU program coached by Jarrod Lazarus, Keel chose the Chippewas over Rhode Island and the Citadel.

Keel's high school team will be competing in the ESPN Rise National High School Invitational on March 31- April 2 in Washington DC. Potential TV games include March 31 – 6pm – ESPNU, April 1 – 3:30pm – ESPN2, April 2 – 2:00pm - ESPN.

Keel joins guards Jorddan Myrick and Austin McBroom in CMU's 2011 recruiting class.
