The win was CMU's fifth straight and improved its MAC West leading mark to 5-1. The Chippewas are now 16-13 for the season. Toledo falls to 2-7 in MAC play and 8-19 overall.
Central Michigan moved out to a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth before the Rockets scored one run and added two in the sixth to cut the deficit to 4-3. However, the Chippewas scored one in the seventh, two in the eighth and one in the ninth for the victory.
Ryan Cremeans was the starter and winner for CMU, going six innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits. He walked one and fanned five batters.
Jayson Ruhlman went the next two frames, giving up two hits in two scoreless innings. He walked two and struck out four. David LeMieux tossed the final scoreless inning, striking out one.
Kurtis Wells doubled, went to third on a single by Bryan Mitzel and scored on an infield grounder by J.T. Jones in the second.
In the third, Chase Welker singled and scored on a double by Jim Geldhof while in the fifth Eric Cannon and Geldhof singled. Cannon scored on an error and Geldhof later scored on a single by Wells.
Geldhof, Wells and Latour singled in the seventh for a run and Wells picked up a two-run double in the eighth. Jones had an RBI single in the ninth for CMU's final marker.
As it has been much of the season, Geldhof (three hits and two runs) and Wells (four hits and three RBI) paced the Chippewas. Geldhof is now hitting .427 and Wells .433.
CMU is at Oakland on Tuesday in a non-league game and then entertains Michigan on Wednesday in a single, nine-inning game at 3 p.m. Next up in the MAC is a three-game home set next Friday, Saturday and Sunday with Ball State.
