Nelson Named MAC Player of the Week

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University junior guard Kevin Nelson was named Mid-American Conference West Division "Player of the Week" on Monday.

Kevin Nelson led the Chippewas to a 2-0 record, including an 88-83 road win at Marshall that snapped a 17-game road losing skid.

The 6-3 shooting guard from Southfield, Mich. (Detroit Country Day HS), averaged 18.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals in the two games.

He shot 50 percent from the floor (12-for-24), 64 percent from three-point range (7-for-11) and 100 percent from the line (5-for-5).

Nelson tallied 24 points, including five three-pointers, at Marshall and also had 12 points in a victory over Loyola-Chicago.

Nelson is third in the MAC in scoring (17.1 ppg), second in three-pointers made (3.20) and sixth in free throw percentage (.812).

The junior scored his 600th career point in the win over Marshall and he moved into a tie for seventh on CMU's career three-pointers made chart with 123.

The Chippewas are at home for their next two games, hosting Buffalo on Thursday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m., and Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m.
