Chippewas Collecting Donations for Tsunami Victims

MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan University men's basketball team and the Chippewa Athletics Department will be collecting monetary donations to help those affected by the recent tsunami in Southeast Asia.

Donations will be accepted on Sunday, Jan. 9, at the Central Michigan-Eastern Michigan game. Tipoff in Rose Arena is set for 1 p.m.

Team managers will be at the door with donation canisters for those willing to make a contribution to the cause. The donations will then be forwarded to the American Red Cross.

"Over a hundred thousand people lost their lives in this tragic event," CMU coach Jay Smith said. "This is just a small way that the Chippewa community can pitch in and help out."

NOTE: Tipoff for Sunday's game is at 1 p.m. Game time had been moved in October to accommodate television. Some of the tickets and schedules in circulation that were printed before the change list the old tipoff time. The game will air throughout Michigan on Comcast Local.
