Big Weekend Nets Six Commitments for CMU

The Central Michigan University football program had a very productive weekend on the recruiting front. The Chippewas have added six verbal commitments to their 2005 class.

Chippewas Insider has learned that Central Michigan University received six verbal commitments from players who visited campus this weekend. All six players are defensive standouts, including four from Texas and two from Florida.

Topping the list is defensive end Daimyeon Hoskin (6-4, 210) of Irving (Texas) MacArthur High School. Hoskin had been scheduled to visit CMU next weekend but his visit plans reportedly changed late last week. Hoskin also recently received an offer from Indiana University.

Joining Hoskin in pledging the Chippewas is fellow Texan Aaron Carr. A 6-foot, 185-pound safety from Arlington Bowie High School, Carr also reportedly had offers from UTEP and Toledo.

Rounding out the commitments from the Lone Star State are two linebackers, Barron Miles and Chris Mitchell. Miles is a 6-2, 215-pounder from DeSoto High School, while Mitchell (6-1, 215) is a product of Houston Westfield. Miles also had offers from Ohio University and New Mexico State, according to DeSoto head coach Dave Meadows. Published reports listed an SMU offer for Mitchell.

The Chippewas also received two commitments from the state of Florida, defensive end Harland Bower (6-4, 210) of Clermont East Ridge High School and linebacker Melvin Black (6-2, 215) of Apopka. Both players helped lead their teams to the state playoffs. East Ridge finished 11-1, losing in the Class 4A, Region 2 final, while Apopka completed a 9-2 campaign, losing in the Class 6A, Region 1 final.

Two other players who visited CMU this weekend could also be close to making a decision. They are cornerback Joseph Fontenot (5-8, 165), a teammate of Mitchell's at Houston Westfield, and cornerback Rashaad Montgomery (5-11, 175) of Calhoun (Ga.) High School.

Central Michigan still has room for as many as eight players in its 2005 recruiting class.
