Sneed Receives MAC Honor

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University freshman running back Ontario Sneed of Clinton (Ill.) High School has been named Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Chippewas' 31-17 win at Akron Saturday.

Ontario Sneed ran 21 times for 183 yards and a touchdown and caught six passes for 77 yards and two scores. He established new career highs for all-purpose yards (260), rushing yards, receptions, and receiving yards. Sneed scored on a 45-yard catch-and-run in the second quarter, then found the end zone on a 50-yard run and 10-yard catch to break a 17-17 fourth-quarter tie.

Sneed has rushed for at least 100 yards three times this season, collecting 148 yards in the opener against Indiana on Sept. 2, and 122 yards against Eastern Michigan on Sept. 24.

Sneed leads CMU in rushing (570 yards) and scoring (six touchdowns) and ranks second in receptions (20). He is 13th nationally, and second among all freshmen, with 114.0 rushing yards per game.

Sneed is the third Chippewa to earn a weekly conference honor this season. Daniel Bazuin was named the West Division Defensive Player of the Week following the Indiana game, while Kent Smith garnered offensive honors for his performance in the Sept. 10 win at Miami.

Central Michigan (2-3 overall, 2-1 MAC) closes out the non-conference portion of the schedule on Saturday, visiting Army at 1 p.m. ESPN Classic will televise the contest to a national audience.
